Rents in DC: What $1,700 Will Get You in 2024

With the average rent for an apartment in the United States at $1,702 per month, one company wanted to know what size apartment you could get in major cities for that amount. Rent Cafe broke down the square footage available if you were paying $1,700 for each zip code in those cities, including in Washington, DC.

Understanding what size apartment you get at a price point is a helpful measure of affordability that doesn’t always come across when comparing the rent based on something like the number of bedrooms. Places like New York City are notorious for shoebox-sized apartment that are technically two bedrooms. Comparing the size of an apartment for one price point is a way to understand the value a bit better.

The result: an interactive map that will tell you by zip code paying $1,700 for rent in Washington, DC will get you.
