A volunteer-run organization\, they provide food for all who qualify instead of focusing on a certain sub-population. They also make meals that are distributed at the MLK Library for the unhoused. \nDuring this volunteer shift\, we’ll be packing bags full of groceries to be delivered to people’s homes. \nThe shift lasts from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. DESCRIPTION:  \nDumbarton Oaks Park is a 27-acre landscaped park under the National Park Service (NPS) that was formerly part of the Dumbarton Oaks estate in Georgetown. The estate is a milestone in the history of American landscape architecture and a landmark in our social history\, as it represents the finest work of Beatrix Farrand\, America’s first professional female landscape architect. As a “naturalistic\,” but intensely designed landscape of meadows\, woodlands\, bulbs and wildflowers\, paths and ponds\, and constructed waterfalls\, Dumbarton Oaks Park offers recreation as well as restorative quiet\, beauty\, and inspiration for Washington\, DC residents and visitors from beyond. \nDumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy\, in partnership with the NPS\, now seeks to bring this historic landscape back to its aesthetic splendor while also enhancing its modern-day utility to the national capital community. \nDuring this volunteer opportunity\, participants will be helping to maintain the park\, including landscaping activities. \nDate & Time: Saturday\, September 21st (9am-1pm) \nMeeting Location: Lovers’ Lane – approximately 200 feet east of R Street and 31st Street NW; it’s signposted by a green-on-white wooden plaque reading\,  “Dumbarton Oaks Park\, Open Dawn to Dusk.” \nBring: We recommend wearing long pants\, long-sleeved shirts\, socks\, and closed-toe shoes for protection\, and bringing a water bottle. \nWe Supply: gloves\, tools\, training\, snacks\, and supplementary water. \nForms: DOPC Volunteer Waiver and NPS Individual Volunteer Form. Please fill out/sign\, digitally or print & scan\, and reply to your confirmation email with the documents attached prior to the volunteer event. SUMMARY:Meetup at Flores Flamencas Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Flores Flamencas Festival brings together local flamenco dancers for a day of live performances\, workshops\, and Spanish food. It’s put on by Torcuart to celebrate the legacy of Torcuato Zamora Herrada\, who is credited with bringing flamenco to DC. \nBring a picnic blanket and sunscreen\, and join us! This was my favorite thing I went to in 2023\, and I thought it would be fun to do a meetup at the festival. \nThe festival is free\, and food and drink are available for pre-purchase. Last year they did run out of paella so I would recommend purchasing ahead of time!

SUMMARY:Old Korean Legation Private Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Old Korean Legation is a historic home located on Logan Circle. Between 1889 and 1905\, it served as the the hub for Korean diplomatic ventures. Following the Japanese take over of the Korean government\, the legation was sold to private owners. In 2012\, the South Korean government was able to repurchase the building\, and they spent years restoring it to the late 1800s period when it served as the legation\, with period wallpaper\, furniture\, and carpets being installed. Looking at it reminds me of the set of the show The Gilded Age. \nOur tour will begin promptly at 11:00 AM\, so please arrive at least 10 minutes early so we can begin on time. Afterwards\, those who are interested can grab coffee on 14th Street.

Today\, it serves as the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati lineage association and as a public museum. \nDuring this tour\, we will be guided through the mansion and learn about the beautiful art\, the Andersons\, and the Society of the Cincinnati. \nThe tour is free\, and donations to the Society of the Cincinnati are gladly accepted from those who are able. \nMeet at the house at 10:50 AM for a 11:00 AM tour start time. You can only access the home on a guided tour\, and if you’re late\, you may not be able to join the tour.
